[MUSIC] The World We Knew – Death Dealer [REVIEW]
THE WORLD WE KNEW
Death Dealer
[BlkHeart Group]
Verdict: 8.5/10

Being in a band these days is a hard and sometimes painful road. It can cause bands to call it quits or, in the case of Long Island, NY’s THE WORLD WE KNEW, it can make you a stronger tighter beast. Since the band’s formation in 2004 they have been soldiering on, touring relentlessly and putting out music. The release of Death Dealer shows the band taking that same passion and fury displayed on 2009′s To The Wolves and added not only meatier and grittier parts, but have had the luxury of a good quality recording. The songs on Death Dealer sound as vicious as the band does live, promising a menacing and memorable time. The songs are tighter and roll out of the speakers, never ceasing in its hungry quest to decimate all false preconceptions of this band. Starting off an album featuring a guest vocal seems common these days, but its hard to top “Hopeless Hero” featuring the incendiary vocal talents of Alex Erian (DESPISED ICON R.I.P.). The song starts off with some radio surfing before settling in on the explosive drumming and riffing. From here the song builds and only gets harder, building to its ultimate and destructive release, causing this commotion continues throughout not only the track but the rest of the album. Only adding a few clean vocal parts makes the harder parts that much meaner and crisper. Frank Fanelli’s vocals are down right terrifying on a few tracks, like the disgustingly aggressive and unapologetic title track. More than once TWWK forays and dabbles into deathcore territory, but only enough to add to the bands already heavy grooves and viciousness. “Ground Zero” is a nice minute long interlude that leads into the track “Judgment Day”, Gary Michel (FROM THE PAWN) makes an ungodly racket as the song tightly weaves its monstrous metal madness upon the listener. TWWK even treats the listener to a special gem in the hidden track after album closer “Backlash”. Ready and more than able to take over the world, THE WORLD WE KNEW have released an album that will help define their place amongst metals elite. Dealing a little death along the way as they slaughter their way across America and abroad should help along those that didnt already know. — by Jon Hole
