[MUSIC REVIEW] Goatwhore – Blood For The Master
GOATWHORE
Blood for the Master
[Metal Blade Records]
Verdict: 9/10
RIYL: Heavy f***in metal
Louisiana’s own GOATWHORE is a metal band, through and through. Hell, their name alone almost forces them to be in the metal community. Could you imagine an indie folk group named GOATWHORE? Regardless, the band has cultivated their unique sound over the past four releases, and with their fifth album the band continues their blend of death, thrash, and black metal. While that may sound like it’s an evil foray into the dark and dreary, the proceedings on Blood for the Master are decidedly catchy as hell. Seriously, some of the riffs on here will go down as the best in the year. “Judgment of the Bleeding Crown” is a great example of this. Featuring melodic leads, a great vocal performance, and a black metal atmosphere, the song is a definite highlight. The way that the band is able to adeptly blend the black, death, and thrash elements into a cohesive sound is really impressive; that lends itself to the notion that the band really is a unique entity in a genre known more for copycat riffs than originality. The only thing holding this back from an even higher score is the fact that a couple of the songs are a bit “samey” at first, but further listens allow the idiosyncrasies to come forth. Fans of extreme metal in all its forms will find a hell of a lot to enjoy about GOATWHORE. – by Nicholas Senior

>> In Conclusion: GOATWHORE is just as awesome as their name. Fans of death, thrash, and black metal will find a hell of a lot to enjoy with the band’s latest release.
