[MUSIC REVIEW] Upon A Burning Body – Red. White. Green.

UPON A BURNING BODY
Red. White. Green.
[Sumerian Records]
Verdict: 8/10

The last UABB album took me by surprise, catching my attention and making me excited to hear more. Red. White. Green. does not disappoint. In fact, it’s a better entry than before. With more “fuck yeah” breakdowns and energetic moments, RWG is like a raging bull on steroids. There are a couple moments where things actually aren’t crazy, like with “El Mariachi”, but then the band goes right back to blowing shit up. Screamed lines like “Life sucks and then you die” (“Sin City”) and “Everything is bigger in Texas / Loaded double barrel, blow you to pieces” (“Texas Blood Money”) are made all the better by gang vocals and aggressive breakdowns surrounding them. This all-out war sound is what makes UABB so damn entertaining. RWG is really the kind of album you want play loud when you’re in a pissed off mood, or have to much energy to keep inside. – By Nathaniel Lay

>> Recommended Tracks: “Sin City”, “Texas Blood Money”, “Mimic”, “From Dusk Till Dawn”
>> Release: April 10, 2012
>> In Conclusion: Upon A Burning Body are back and even better with Red. White. Green. This album is quite the beast. Play it loud and scream along.

Second Opinion Time…

Verdict: 7/10

When UPON A BURNING BODY released The World Is Ours in 2010, they captured the ears and hearts of metalcore fans from across the board. While the band is beyond amazing live, that record sort of fell short of the hype. (It wasn’t until the band released their tribute to PANTERA by covering ’5 Minutes Alone’ that I started to appreciate these Texas metalers. -JH) The release of the ‘Sin City’ single proved UABB had honed their chops and songwriting abilities while on the road. Red. White. Green. is proof that a well hyped band can improve and make themselves worthy of praise. The 11 tracks here are quite amazing and downright brutal at times. Taking their song titles from Robert Rodriguez movies, a San Antonio, Texas native, UABB show their love for all things Texas and heavy. Even the boisterous and kinda cheesy lyrics on ‘Texas Blood Money’ are easily digested and forgiven as the musicianship is absolutely amazing. It isn’t until ‘Desperado’ and beyond that UABB really flex and display their newer more streamlined sound. If ever a band has deserved all the ‘hype’, whether it’s musically or their public beef with another band, UPON A BURNING BODY are without a doubt that band. Red. White. Green. may be the bands start into the majors.          -by Jon Hole

Recommended listening: ‘Sin City’, ‘Desperado’ & ‘The Island Of Lost Dreams’
Guest appearances: Johnny Plague of Winds of Plague on “Predators”; Fronz of ATTILA on “Mimic” &
Nate Johnson of Fit For An Autopsy on “From Dusk Till Dawn”
Release date: April 10, 2012
In conclusion…While UPON A BURNING BODY may not ever be referred to as “The band that changed the scene”, they are the band that does what they do better than 90% of the wanna-be’s out there. Red. White. Green. should be proof of this…
