[MUSIC REVIEW] Rocky Loves Emily – Secrets Don’t Make Friends

ROCKY LOVES EMILY
Secrets Don’t Make Friends
(Tooth & Nail Records)
8/10

The more pop-fused version of Sparks the Rescue has returned with their second full length, Secrets Don’t Make Friends. Rocky Loves Emily got that catchy-rock sound down solid clearly, complete with beautiful melodies, keyboards, and mature lyrical content (minus the explicit language). In all honesty, every track is fun and memorable, though “Be Mine Tonight”, “Drivin’ Me Crazy”, “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, and “Secrets Don’t Make Friends” are definitely the most catchy and infectious. Of course, the band also show their slower side on this record as well, which is also impressive. The songs “Dream” and “Oil & Water” are great additions, and the band even goes as far as to include a more experimental and progressive track, titled “The Root of All Evil”. Secrets Don’t Make Friends is far from a sophomore slump for Rocky Loves Emily. – by Nathaniel Lay
