DISPENSERS
Dispensers EP
[Independent]
Verdict: 9/10
Formerly Julian & The Lopez Dispensers, Dispensers have “returned” with a new three track, self-titled EP. Like their last couple releases, the songs have a very folksy appeal to them. This means melodic and beautiful arrangements, often simple (which works perfectly for this style of music), accompanied by the great vocalist, Julian Lopez. The first track, “Annabelle (Run, Run)”, is the smoothest sounding song of the three. “Locked In A Room” picks up more of a country rock feel to it, bringing to mind a small bar stage and drinks. Lastly, “But You Do” feels closest to the band’s last EP, bringing out a little more flare and “pop” to the sound. Overall, this is another great EP from Julian and her gang. A full length would much better represent the band, but as long as they continue to regularly release music, it’s hard to complain. Whatever sound they’ve tried has been fresh and impressive thus far, making it clear that this group has what it takes to go far. – By Nathaniel Lay
