[MUSIC] Creations – The Gospel [REVIEW]

CREATIONS
The Gospel
[Rite Of Passage/Mediaskare Records]
Verdict: 8/10

The current crop and rising of Christian hardcore and metal bands is and can be an inspiring thing. Some end up a little too preachy and only really appeal to either die hard Christians or fans of the heavier end of music. We now have SOVEREIGN STRENGTH, THE GREAT COMMISSION and SLEEPING GIANT as the bigger of the new crop. Now we have CREATIONS, a 4 piece brutal hardcore band from Sydney, Australia. They specialize in the beatdown, downtuned abusive hardcore that have floors swarming with moshers and hardcore dancers. They also represent the darkness that followed Christ’s death. It’s in this darkness that they shine. Driving ACACIA STRAIN sized riffs during “The Lion, The Lamb” and throughout the rest of The Gospel, with strained hardcore vocals dominating the disc as the rest of the band thunder and stomp their way through the madness. Preaching without being ‘preachy’ is what allows CREATIONS to be a force to be reckoned with. The message is there but its not forced down the listeners throats. The music speaks for itself. It isnt all beatdown though as “The Cross, The Deserving” starts to a mellower melodic opening riff before diving headfirst into the once again, The Dead Walk era ACACIA STRAIN. This will no doubt be the selling point for this amazing young band. From start to finish, CREATIONS have indeed released a gospel. A gospel of unrelenting heaviness that manages to still tell their story. — by Jon Hole
