[NEWS] Sharks Announce New Album

SHARKS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, SELFHOOD, DUE OUT APRIL 30TH VIA RISE RECORDS
HEAR THE FIRST SINGLE “PORTLAND” NOW

shakrsLOS ANGELES, CA – March 6, 2013 – The UK’s Sharks today announced the release of their much-anticipated new full-length album, entitled Selfhood. The album will be released on April 30th via Rise Records and is the follow up to their striking 2012 offering No Gods, which NME called, “joyous blue-collar punk from Leamington Spa… a starry-eyed celebration of yearning on a US factory floor, as idealised by British spa town punks.” The album’s radiant first single “Portland” is available to hear now. See below for a lyric video, album art, full track-listing, and pre-order bundles.

Selfhood was recorded in just two weeks in Southampton, UK at The Ranch studio and produced by Lewis Johns (Gnarwolves, Bastions). The new release expands on the explosive punk meets Brit pop anthems on No Gods, and showcases a more mature and solid live band – a result of endless international touring in support of past releases.

“The whole approach with this record from the beginning was to have the process be very reckless and fun, and for every decision and idea not to be pondered on or over thought,” said the band’s frontman and vocalist James Mattock. “We set ourselves no more than three months to write this record, with no songs written going into the studio. We wanted to set ourselves these targets as a way to really capture a moment -an important aspect in making an album.”

The songs on Selfhood spotlight the band’s effortless knack for indie-punk songwriting, sharp guitar-fueled melodies and emotionally charged lyrics – channeling influences from the likes of The Smiths, Richard Hawley and The Cribs.

“I wrote most of the lyrics in a room above a morgue in which I lived with my fiancée for about five months,” said Mattock. “The place was an old Victorian building with no heat, running water, or bathroom. It wasn’t even legally residential. A lot of what I was going through around this period is channeled in the lyrics. These are the most intimate and personal songs I’ve written – thus Selfhood is the most fitting title.”

Born in 2007, Sharks is James Mattock (vocals), Andrew Bayliss (guitar), Sam Lister (drums), and Carl Murrihy (bass). They released their first independent EP, Shallow Waters, in 2008 and drummed up a serious buzz while playing with the likes of Gallows, The Wedding Present, Social Distortion, Hot Water Music, The Gaslight Anthem, Baby Shambles and more. In 2011 they released The Joys of Living 2008-2010, which BBC’s Zane Lowe praised as “the sound of a band reaching that moment when they are absolutely ready.” Their 2012 release No Gods introduced the band to U.S. audiences, with Alternative Press declaring that their music “bristles with a wonderful sense of rock and roll heritage that serves as a tribute to fallen heroes… something refreshing and contemporary.”

Sharks just returned home from a successful appearance at the Soundwave Festival in Australia. Stay tuned for announcements on U.S. touring plans.

“All we desire to achieve is the connection of an emotion sincerely felt.”

[MUSIC NEWS] Memphis May Fire announce new record

Memphis May Fire Reveal Album Title and Cover Art for New Album;

Challenger Due Out June 26 on Rise Records

Catch Them on Vans Warped Tour All Summer Long

Dallas, TX’s Memphis May Fire return this summer with Challenger, the hard-charging follow up to the band’s acclaimed Rise Records debut, The Hollow, which landed at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekerschart and at #109 on the Top 200 back in April 2011.

Memphis May Fire have consistently pushed the envelope to redefine both themselves and the various sub-genres they’ve made their mark within. Challenger, (co-produced by Cameron Mizell and leadguitarist/songwriterKellen McGregor) once again finds the band growing by leaps and bounds, with no sign of slowing down.

“’Challenger’ is a crystal clear representation of our growth as a band. It’s heavier than anything we’ve done before & packed full of the most honest & transparent lyrics I’ve ever written. Our guitarist Kellen McGregor worked side by side with Cameron Mizell for engineering & production on our last record & the response was amazing so it was a no brainer for us to go back to the same formula for this one. It turned out better than we had ever imagined. We’re making a huge statement this time around,” says front man Matty Mullins.

Challenger will be released on June 26.

Catch Memphis May Fire (with new guitarist Anthony Sepe) on the entire Vans Warped Tour this summer.

[MUSIC REVIEW] Words Like Daggers – Literature

WORDS LIKE DAGGERS
Literature
[Indianola Records]
Verdict: 7.5/10
RIYL: Progressive melodic metalcore

I hate this over-used saying, but f*## it, it’s so true in this case. What a different a year makes. I reviewed WORDS LIKE DAGGERS’ debut EP last year (here: http://lmpmagazine.com/2011/07/15/album-vs-album-words-like-daggers-vs-within-wolves) and ended up with the conclusion that the band had a ton of potential, so it would be very interesting to see what’d they would do with it. Well a funny thing happened in between albums, as Literature is fantastic. Taking all that is enjoyable about melodic metalcore/post-hardcore a la a mix of BLESSTHEFALL and OH, SLEEPER, the group has added in some much-welcomed progressive elements, and the results are good, oh so good. There are many moments of mathcore madness and other times when time signatures change more frequently than the weather in Ohio. All of this adds up to a fairly captivating release from these relative newcomers. Literature puts its best foot forward with a “Preface” that is an actual song, instead of a useless introduction. The track is a four minute song that is a literal table of contents on what you can expect with the record: moments of hard-hitting maelstrom, melody aplenty, and thoughtful songwriting. Each song has some solid moments that differentiate it from the other, making this an album that is easy to listen to in its entirety. The only major problems are that the songs themselves are not very memorable, and that a few of the more generic elements of metalcore rear their ugly heads in a few spots. But for the most part, Literature is the musical equivalent of Gatorade on a hot day: it’s not perfect, but it goes down smoothly. – by Nicholas Senior

>> Recommended Listening: “Preface” and “Cheers Gents! We’re Going Down Together”
>> Release Date: April 24th, 2012
>> In Conclusion: For those that enjoy a more progressive take on metalcore, give WORDS LIKE DAGGERS a listen. The improvement from the EP is highly evident and appreciated.

[MUSIC NEWS] Daytrader Album Release Details

DAYTRADER

TWELVE YEARS OUT MAY 8th 2012 ON RISE RECORDS

“FIREBREATHER”NOW STREAMING

Daytrader has been building an intense anticipation of their full-length album for more than a year now.  Since releasing their EP ‘Last Days Of Rome’ in early 2011, they have built the buzz through the infectious tracks on the EP as well as their fantastic live show.  The small amount of tracks on the EP left fans hungry for more and while it has taken time for a follow up, it wasn’t without good reason.  The band, featuring ex-members of Crime In Stereo, Latterman and Divider comprises the best the Long island scene has to offer, so naturally they entered the studios with the patron saint of producers- Mike Sapone (Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, The Early November)

Daytrader writes hard-hitting, heartfelt songs in the vein of Jimmy Eat World, How Water Music, Saves The Day and Sunny Day Real Estate.  Drawing from the best aspects of turn of the century pop, punk and emo, Daytrader crafts each song into an existing, unique experience.  Their brand of sharp songwriting combined with Sapone’s fantastic production will leave you humming along, long after you’ve finished listening.

Music News: Dead Icons debut album “Condemned” details

Dead Icons debut album “Condemned” out Jan 24
Recorded at Warrior Sound Studios (Chapel Hill, NC) / Mastered by Jamie King
As seen on tour with Gravemaker, Foundation, Call To Preserve
Exclusive new interview at Lambgoat
Kentucky’s DEAD ICONS have announced their debut album for Bullet Tooth titled “CONDEMNED” will be out everywhere January 24, 2012.  The band just recently wrapped up production at Warrior Sound Studios in Chapel Hill, NC and Jaime King (BTBAM, Deception Of A Ghost) handled mastering.  For now fans can listen to a few songs off of “Vultures” on their Facebook page.  The band has released two studio update videos on Vimeo that you can watch here and here.  Vocalist Will Johns checked in to say, “We’ve got 12 songs for this record and in my opinion they are without a doubt the best material we have ever written in this band.  I think that people who have listened to us since the start and new fans as well will be satisfied with them, it’s got a little bit of something for everyone.”
Dead Icons is a hardcore band from Lexington, Kentucky and has been a band for about two and a half years.  They weren’t from a prominent city in the hardcore scene, didn’t have a friend in a popular hardcore band, or have any members of any past notable bands.  So instead of giving up, they set out to achieve their goals by sheer hard work and continuing to push through when times got tough and most bands would back out. The band started from members of several local bands who shared the same dream of being able to tour, and at the end of 2008 they decided to pursue their dream and released a six song demo.  Shortly after this, and after a few of the members either graduated high school or dropped everything they were doing, the band completed a self booked full U.S. tour.  A few months after the demo came out, Dead Icons put out five songs on a split CD with a band called Unrestrained (VT).  After the release of the split, the band was featured in Amp Magazine’s “Bands You Need To Know” issue and spent the better part of 2009/2010 touring D.I.Y. as often as possible.
Commenting on signing to Bullet Tooth, Dead Icons bassist Stanley Sievers said, “We are extremely excited to be a part of this label, and especially being involved with a guy like Josh Grabelle who has such a good track record with hardcore bands (Terror, Most Precious Blood, Walls of Jericho, Despair, Another Victim, etc..) which happen to be some of the bands that got us into this type of music.  Needless to say, being able to come full circle and be a part of this label is truly satisfying.  We are glad that someone of this caliber took interest in our hardcore band that we started in a practice space two years ago and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
In the summer of 2010 they self released a five song E.P. called “Vultures” which was well received and is available digitally.  After more touring in 2010/2011 with Grave Maker (Victory), Foundation (Bridge 9), Call To Preserve (Facedown) and more, the band is finally gearing up for their long awaited first full length record.
“This record will be a milestone in our lives, and will breathe new life into our band.  You can expect it to show both where we have came from musically, and the progression we have undoubtedly made over the past few years.” – Stanley Sievers.

Music News: Autopsy release album details

AUTOPSY REVEALS RELEASE DATE FOR “ALL TOMORROW’S FUNERALS” 22-track collection out February 28th on Peaceville Records CALIFORNIA – Bay Area death metal pioneer, Autopsy, has completed recording and re-mastering work on the upcoming, All Tomorrow’s Funerals, due out February 28th on Peaceville Records. This monstrous release will contain all of Autopsy’s EP’s re-mastered by the band themselves, as well as new cuts, totaling 22 tracks all together. Everything from ‘Retribution For The Dead’ to the now sold-out, ‘The Tomb Within,’ will be presented on CD and DLP with all original artworks, liner notes from the band and new cover art from renowned artist, Matt Cavotta.             Said the band, “Well, we’ve finished recording a few new tracks for the upcoming collection album All Tomorrow’s Funerals, and they came out brutal and heavy as hell. Along with the newly written songs, we did a revamped version of “Mauled To Death,” which is the very last of the old songs that needed a proper album quality recording. This album will also contain all four EP’s, all of which are out of print, as well as a compilation track from 1991, so the grand total is 22 tracks. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for quite awhile, getting all the loose chunks together in one place rather than having them split up and added on as bonus tracks here and there. Everything has been painstakingly re-mastered with the band’s guidance and sounds better and more crushing than ever. And don’t worry, we didn’t get carried away and ruin anything! Combine all that with killer new cover art from Matt Cavotta and we’ve got one hell of release in the works. Look for it in February 2012.             We are now working on all new material for the next album, due out late 2012/early 2013 and we can definitely promise more of what you would expect from Autopsy. There will be no compromise and no holding back. If you want 100% pure death metal brutality, you will certainly get it.”

One of the early breed of US death metal acts, and most respected names in the genre, Autopsy formed in 1987 in San Francisco, and released four albums on Peaceville Records – beginning with the classic debut Severed Survival in 1989 – before disbanding in 1995 with members going on to form Abscess.             Autopsy triumphantly and officially returned from the grave after a 15-year hiatus with the 2010 EP, ‘The Tomb Within,’ delighting critics and fans alike.             The band then released its fifth full length, and first since 1995, Macabre Eternal, earlier this year to much critical acclaim.             Stay tuned for more info on Autopsy and All Tomorrow’s Funerals.
